Cancer Cell Biology Program

Cancer Cell Biology Program

Scientific Goal

To understand the cellular regulatory functions that establish and maintain the malignant phenotype.

Program Goal

To advance understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer by generating new knowledge in normal and cancer cell biology, and by participating in the application of this knowledge to translational and clinical investigation.

Focus Groups

Proliferation and Apoptosis

Investigators work on growth factor signaling, cell cycle control, induction of apoptosis and on a number of related oncogenes and tumor suppressors.

Membrane Receptors and Traffic

Investigators work on membrane biogenesis, intracellular membrane traffic, targeting and recycling of cell surface growth factor receptors and cell polarity.

Development and Cancer

Investigators focus on the role in cancer of molecules that are important in normal embryonic development and cell differentiation. They share interests in cell surface receptors and glycoconjugates, adhesion site regulation and signaling, cell motility, invasion and metastasis.

Program Activities

Program activities are designed to intensify interactions and collaborations among the members of the Program and with members of other Programs, especially those with a clinical focus.

Program Members

The Cancer Cell Biology Program had 60 full members and 35 associate members in the 2008-2009 reporting period.
