Laboratory Animal Facilities

The majority of the Laboratory Animals Core facilities are located on the Anschutz Medical Campus within the Center for Comparative Medicine, an ultra-modern, multispecies animal facility. It features:

  • HEPA-filtered HVAC
  • Circadian animal suite lighting
  • A surgical suite with two operating rooms, recovery, animal and instrument prep, surgeons scrub, quarantine and isolation suites
  • Aquatic animal suite
  • Transgenic/knockout suite
  • Behavioral testing suite
  • Procedure rooms
  • Animal imaging suite with a 4.7 Tesla small animal MRI and Cesium irradiation vault (part of the Small Animal Imaging Core)
  • Necropsy
  • Diagnostic laboratory
  • Large animal housing rooms
  • ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 containment suites
  • Automated cage wash suite with robotics

The Center for Laboratory Animal Care, located in the 9th Avenue Campus, serves about 25 percent of UCCC researchers' animal needs. It will be abandoned in 2008 when the new CCM opens on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
