Informatics Core Staff

Jessica Bondy, MHA, Core Director

Ms. Bondy is responsible for policies, procedures, personnel, budget, reports and Cancer Center meetings. She chairs the UCCC Informatics Steering Committee , which is responsible for setting priorities, and participates in the UCCC Data Sharing committee and the UCD CTSA Informatics Committee. She performs most of the Core’s communication and coordination with national organizations such as AACI, caBIG, and BRIITE. She has directed the Informatics team for over five years.

Ms. Bondy has been applying information technology to problems of medical care, research and education for over 20 years, serving as both a developer and a project manager. She has developed databases for tracking and recruitment in clinical trials, medical citations, drug information, and clinical data derived from claims. Other projects include an automated data cleaning and validation system, an artificial intelligence program to describe practice patterns using claims information, software supporting physicians’ free text queries of MEDLINE, a CD to help men make informed decisions about PSA testing, and a variety of educational websites. Ms. Bondy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics. 

John Hayes, Core Manager

Mr. Hayes has 15 years of experience as a computer professional with specific technical expertise in Database Administration, Database Modeling, and Application Development. He has previous experience at pharmaceutical companies and has been with the UCCC for seven years, serving as Manager of the team since 2002. Mr. Hayes is the architect of the existing UCCC databases, which include components for clinical trials administration, pathology, and specimen tracking. He oversees day-to-day management of the Core, supervising Core staff, is the project leader for application development, and is directly responsible for data migration programming efforts. 

Mindy Walters, MS, Programmer

Mindy Walters, MS in Computer Information Systems, is our lead front-end programmer. Ms. Walters has 7+ years application programming experience, including Access, C#, ASP.NET, and Visual Basic, as well as database administration / programming on Oracle SQL Server, and Access.  She has been working at UCCC since 2001.

Dayi Deng, MS, Database Programmer

Dayi Deng, MS in Computer Science and MS in Mathematics, is our database and front-end programmer.  Mr. Deng has 14+ years application programming experience, including programming on Visual C++, Java, ColdFusion, C# and ASP.NET, and database design and administration on SQL Server, Oracle, and Access. He has worked on Web-database applications, Client/Server applications, and multimedia programming and has experience with UML modeling. He has been working at the UCCC since 2004.

Ken Claussen, MBA, Database Quality Control and Reporting Specialist

Ken Claussen, BS, MBA, is the Database Quality Control and Reporting Specialist. Mr. Claussen brings 15+ years of business management experience along with his 6+ years of technical database experience to the Informatics team.  Ken has been with the UCCC for more than five years. He is directly responsible for the quality assurance of the Cancer Center ’s databases, for example identifying inconsistencies in the trial data, researching and working with the Clinical Investigations Core staff to rectify those inconsistencies.  He is also responsible for transferring data from remote data sources and designing and implementing Crystal Reports for all users.

Brian Logue, BS, Server/Workstation/Network Administrator

Brian Logue, BS, is our full-time Server / Workstation / Network Administrator. He has more than 10 years’ experience in technical end-user support and testing, has completed his Windows XP MCSE Training, and is currently working toward his Security+ certification. Mr. Logue is responsible for managing the five Windows 2003 and Windows 2003 servers that house our Clinical Trials, Pathology, and Specimen Tracking applications.  In addition, he provides all aspects of end-user support for PC workstations.

Shelly Hubing, BS, Server/Workstation/Network Administration

Shelly Hubing, BS, is one of our Server / Workstation / Network Administrators. She has more than 12 years experience in desktop and server support and holds an MCSE certification. Along with Brian Logue, Ms. Hubing is responsible for managing the Cancer Center ’s Windows 2003 servers as well as end user support, including desktops and all peripherals, for Cancer Center employees.
