Cytogenetics Core Lab Staff

Marileila Varella Garcia, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, and has been the Director of the UCCC Cytogenetics Core since 1996. She has scientific and financial oversight of all activities. She is also responsible for management of the daily operations of the laboratory, and the training and supervision of the technicians.

Margaret Skokan, BS, is a highly experienced technologist and has been primarily involved in FISH in tissue sections and SKY experiments. She helps with maintenance of microscopes, imaging systems and computers.

Sujatha Gajapathy, MS, is primarily involved in DNA labeling and FISH assays in tissue sections. She is responsible for the chemical inventory control and update and for the maintenance of LabTrack, the Access program for login and control of specimens, tests and users. 

Yun Xiao, PhD, has excellent expertise in cell culture, harvesting, banding and karyotyping, as well as FISH assays in cell suspensions and tissue sections. She is the representative of the laboratory for Health and Safety issues and is responsible for the maintenance of small equipment and appliances.
