2008 Awardees (Round 2)

We are pleased to announce the people who have been selected to receive funding of the American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grants, Cancer and Aging Program P30 Grant support and Cancer Center Seed Grants. In this second funding round, we were able to make grants to  9 people for a total of $168,770 . Congratulations to the awardees!

 

American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grants (07/01/08 to 06/31/09)

Total: $70,000

Hang (Hubert) Yin, PhD, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC Boulder. Award: $20,000 for "Multidisciplinary Analyses of the Activation Mechanism of EBC-LMP-1."

Adrie van Bokhoven, PhD, Instructor of Pathology at UC Denver. Award: $20,000 for "Prognostic Value of Gene-Translocations in Prostate Cancer."

Antonio Jimeno, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Medical Oncology at UC Denver. Award: $20,000 for "Generation of a Head and Neck Squamous Cell Cancer direct Xenograft Model."

Marissa A. Ehringer, PhD, Assistant Professor of Behavorial Genetics and Integrative Physiology at UC Boulder. Award: $10,000 for "Functional Characterization of Nicotinic Receptor Genes Associated with Smoking Behavior and Lung Cancer."

Total: $78,770

Deborah S. Wuttke, PhD, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC Boulder. Award: $20,000 for "KEOPS: A new Conserved Complex Involved in Transcription and Telomere Regulation."

Jessica K. Tyler, PhD, Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at UC Denver. Award: $20,000 for "Novel Pathway of Aging that is Dependent on Histone Acetylation."

James R. Lambert, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pathology at UC Denver. Award: $18,770 for "Suppression of PTEN-Mediated prostate Cancer Tumor Initiation and Progression by Prostate Derived Factor."

Robert A. Sclafani, PhD, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at UC Denver. Award: $20,000 for "Natural Plant Polyphenols as Potentiators of Radiation Therapy in Head and Neck Cancer."

 

University  of Colorado Cancer Center Seed Grants (07/01/08 to 06/31/09)

Total: $20,000

Virginia F. Borges, MD, M.M.Sc., Assistant Professor of Medicine, Medical Oncology at UC Denver. Award: $20,000 for "Biologic Subtype of Breast Cancer Defines its Host Immunologic Impact."
