Your Radiation Therapy Care Team at the University of Colorado Cancer Center

There are many people involved in planning your radiation treatment and caring for you during treatment.

Dosimetrist – Calculates the amount of radiation that is delivered to the cancer and normal tissues surrounding it. This person works closely with your doctor and physicist.

Neurosurgeon – A doctor who specializes in surgery of the nervous system. (Some treatments may not involve a neurosurgeon.)

Nurse – Coordinates your care, describes your treatment, answers any questions you and your family may have, and makes recommendations for managing treatment side effects.

Physicist – Makes sure that the machines delivering the radiation are working properly and are distributing the correct dose. They work closely with your doctor to plan your treatment.

Radiation Oncologist – A doctor who specializes using radiation to treat cancer.

Radiation Therapist – Positions you for treatment and runs the machine that delivers the radiation during treatment.
