Genetics Research
The hospital is currently participating in a clinical research trial to understand the origins of lysosomal storage disorder. These rare diseases affect cells and can cause a variety of symptoms. Treatment is available for some of the lysosomal storage disorders through the adult medical genetics clinic. Other areas of research include: cardiomyopathies, cognitive disability, and polycystic kidney disease.

Matthew Taylor, M.D., PhD is the director of the Adult Medical Genetics Clinic. He is trained in both internal medicine and clinical genetics, representing a new generation of internists who are particularly suited to attend to the challenges posed by genetic medicine. As director of the Adult Medical Genetics Clinic, Dr. Taylor’s principle goal is to develop an adult genetics clinic and consultative service, specializing in the diagnostic evaluation, management and genetic counseling of adults with known or suspected genetic conditions.
